Florence Cuschieri
about
Florence Cuschieri, is a French-Maltese visual artist and author. After a degree in journalism, she joined the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles where she graduated in 2020.
As the granddaughter of Maltese immigrants, the notions of uprootedness and exile resonate with her. She seeks to question human boundaries and the social and political implications that flow from them. She focuses on the emotional impact of these experiences on individuals, seeking to rewrite “forgotten histories” and reprint “missing images”, thereby resurrecting individual and collective memory through the prism of identity. She captures fragments of memories so that they are not just forgotten pasts. Florence offers us poetic narratives where photographs, texts and archives are intertwined.
Her artwork has been showcased in various group exhibitions including the Rotterdam Photo Festival, the Athens Photo Festival, Revela’t (ES) and Encontros da Imagem (PT). She also has been published in several publications such as Gaze, Urbanautica, Artdoc Photography magazine, Der Greif. In 2021 she won the Prix Jeune Photographie Occitanie – Images Singulières (FR) and in 2022 she held her first solo show during the Off des Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles (FR).
